Jesus tells us that there is more joy in Heaven over one repentant sinner than over several that have no need of repentance.

The angels and saints are attuned to God’s heartbeat and are overjoyed when it resonates in welcoming us back; the darker the sorrow of our sin, the brighter the joy of the spiritual realm; entering the confessional becomes like entering our surprise party in Heaven. Our most secret moments revealed and regretted are our fifteen minutes of fame in the everlasting spotlight, while daily conversion keeps the party going.

In time, we too will rejoice together with the heavenly multitude over the humble repentance of another.

Humility then, is the seed from which joy will sprout. “Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness; the bones you have crushed shall rejoice.” (Ps 51:8)
