When two of John’s disciples followed Jesus to ask where He was staying, Jesus responded with the words, “Come and see!”(John 1:39)
Jesus is telling us also to come and see. He invites us to come, but our seeing will depend on our response. God’s plan for us is to come first and then to see; to believe first and then to understand.
This is contrary to the world’s expectation which is to understand first and then perhaps believe. The proud will not come if they do not first see.
God’s way is to initiate belief with the gift of faith. Then, for those who humbly assent, another gift follows. In the time of His choosing, God surprises them with the gift of understanding.
It is all God’s work, and it is only by cooperating with His work that we can start to see the wonder of God's mysteries unfold.
